چکیده

New results of NA61/SHINE on determination of charged hadron yields in proton-carbon interactions are presented. They aim to improve predictions of the neutrino flux in the T2K experiment. The data were recorded using a secondary-proton beam of 31 GeV/c momentum from CERN SPS which impinges on a graphite target. To determine the inclusive production cross section for charged pions, kaons and protons the thin (0.04λI ) target was exploited. Results of this measurement are used in the T2K beam simulation program to reweight hadron yields in the interaction vertex. At the same time, NA61/SHINE results obtained with the T2K replica target (1.9λI ) allow to constrain hadron yields at the surface of the target. It would correspond to the constraint up to 90% of the neutrino flux, thus reducing significantly a model dependence of the neutrino beam prediction. All measured spectra are compared to predictions of hadron production models. In addition a status of the analysis of data collected by NA61/SHINE for the NuMI target (Fermilab) is reviewed. These data will be used further in neutrino beam calculations for the MINERvA, MINOS(+) and LBNE experiments.

Recent results from NA61/SHINE

NA61/SHINE is a multi-purpose experimental facility to study hadron production in hadron-proton, hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. Measurements motivated by physics of strong interactions, neutrinos and cosmic rays have been performed up to now. The first physics data with secondary hadron (protons, pions and kaons) beams were recorded in 2009 a...

1 3 NA 61 / SHINE ion program

This contribution summarizes the current status and future plans of the NA61/SHINE experiment located at CERN SPS. This experiment is the successor of a former NA49 experiment. The broad physics program includes the investigation of the properties of strongly interacting matter, as well as precision measurements of hadron production for the T2K neutrino experiment and for the Pierre Auger Obser...

Measurement of charged pion and kaon production in proton-carbon interaction at 31 GeV/c from NA61/SHINE

An overview of the recent NA61/SHINE results on determination of charged pion and kaon yields in proton-carbon reactions is presented. The results aim to improve predictions of the neutrino flux in the T2K experiment. The data were recorded during the first physics run of NA61 in 2007 where a proton beam of 31 GeV/c momentum scattered off a graphite target. Thin target, 4% of a nuclear interact...

Energy scan of correlations in p+p and Be+Be from NA61/SHINE

The existence of the critical point (CP) of strongly interacting matter is still an open problem. An extensive strong interactions program including a search of the CP and the study of the onset of deconfinement was started by the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN SPS. A two dimensional scan of the phase diagram is performed to search for the CP and to shed light on the phase transition region....

Emergence and Violation of Geometrical Scaling in pp Collisions

We argue that geometrical scaling (GS) proposed originally in the context of Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) at HERA works also in pp collisions at the LHC energies and in NA61/SHINE experiment. We show that in DIS GS is working up to relatively large Bjorken x ~ 0.1 . As a consequence negative pion multiplicity pT distributions at NA61/SHINE energies exhibit GS in mid rapidity region. For y ≠ ...
